Join St Patrick's Day Celebrations in Trafalgar Square

London is looking forward to St Patrick's Day celebrations that will take place on March 16, Sunday at Trafalgar Square. Though St Patrick's Day actually falls on 17 March, the official celebrations will take place a day before.

St Patrick's Day Parade

The colorful parade on St Patrick's Day will excite Central London and the free at Trafalgar Square will have so many special events lined up. This year the theme will be ‘World of Dance’ with innumerable London dance groups converging to celebrate the rich heritage of dance within the Irish culture. Thus spectacular pageantry, amazing floats, and Irish dancers and musicians will enliven the whole parade.

The celebrations will have Irish bands playing music, lots of dance performances, exotic food and drinks. You can indulge in the Guinness beer following the two mile parade around Central London. The Parade will represent all the 32 Irish counties in their traditional colors besides London's Irish community and other Londoners.

The Trafalgar Square and the surrounding areas will have Irish dance lessons a vibrant food market, Irish language classes and St Patrick’s Day Film Festival in Leicester Square’s Prince Charles Cinema where you can see acclaimed Irish films.

Great Saint

St Patrick is perhaps the only patron saint whose memory is celebrated in such a large scale in London. Despite Protestant reformation curbing veneration of the saints, St Patrick commanded adulation as a bona fide evangelist. Through the wave of Irish immigrants who swamped to build London's roads, railways and monuments the love for St Patrick only multiplied.

Trafalgar

At the celebrations in Trafalgar Square, the free St Patrick’s Day festival brings alive the best of Irish music, its culture and arts. This year the St Patrick’s Day Performers will be from Irish dance production Riverdance besides cameo by Commitments and Irish folk group Kila.

A comedy tent by London Irish Comedy Festival will be a highlight. The entry will be free and the line-up includes Irish comedians such as Barry Murphy, Roísín Conaty and Eric Lalor.

Beyond Trafalgar

Besides the Trafalgar Square celebrations the parade will also touch Piccadilly in its 1.5-mile route through central London by gracing landmarks such as the Ritz and Piccadilly Circus before ending at Whitehall. The official celebrations at Trafalgar Square will end at 6pm and after that it will be party time. You can expect bars and restaurants to host special events well into the evening.

Space Apart Hotel

To partake in the joy of the Irish festival gracing London you need a nice place to stay within the city. You can spend a luxurious night in the capital and book your room at aparthotels. The weekend will get you superior rooms, Irish cheese board with a baby Guinness as special treats as part of the St Patrick’s Day. Indulge in Irish coffee and cocktail in the nearby bar with Irish chocolates as the dessert.
